About "Voices"

The dislocation within society as we move into the 21st century has led to many not having a voice.

This multi media project captures the voices of the disaffected and life on the other side of the billboard hoarding.

Today, where technology is omnipresent, and talk of portfolio building is paramount, these voices have been abandoned.

Gone are the monolithic industries, now many are lost and abandoned to name changing schemes, the black economy and long term unemployment.

This impressionistic look at the north-east ignores the Party City, the riverside loft apartments and the gastro-pubs. The collaborators leave that to others as they capture the world at the blunt edge of our society.

The three north-east artists are; photographer Peter Dixon, writer Tom Kelly and musician/producer Steve Thompson.

They work using new technologies, collaborating across distances and times using Internet applications to help evaluate and shape their ideas. The result however is more human than technological. The picture is building and this mix of music, voices photographs is both evocative and moving.

All three are from the area and have a long lineage of work relating to the north-east. VOICES‚ is a project very close to their hearts. This is not a career move. They mean it.
